When I first encountered insurance, I was just about to start working in Singapore as a young girl, completely unaware of how insurance worked. Through a friend’s introduction, I met this professional insurance agent. He not only explained medical cards and basic life insurance in detail but also remained by my side, attentive to my needs.

During my years working in Singapore, he patiently met with me whenever possible and helped me set up a suitable savings plan since there was no EPF or SOCSO in Singapore. I am a tattoo artist, and I was introduced to this insurance agent by a client. Not long after I purchased the insurance, the Covid pandemic hit. Due to long hours crouching while tattooing my clients, I frequently experienced back pain, and the discomfort and soreness in my lower back gradually became a regular issue. I visited doctors and tried various medications, but none were effective. Eventually, I discovered that drinking turmeric powder could help alleviate the symptoms.

Shortly after, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Despite undergoing regular health check-ups, the doctors had never previously identified any abnormalities. Since my insurance had only recently been purchased, the company needed to conduct a thorough investigation, which required me to provide various medical reports from hospitals and clinics.

During this process, I faced several challenges. The doctors' reports were unclear, requiring me to coordinate with them multiple times. I also consulted several specialists, and the process of obtaining these reports took much longer than expected. During that period, I even began to question whether my agent was doing his best or if the insurance company was intentionally delaying things.

But my agent never gave up. He stood by my side throughout, doing everything he could to help me resolve the issues. After six months of effort, the insurance company finally approved a payout of RMX00,000. This not only brought me great relief but also made me realize the true value of insurance. To my relief, I no longer need to pay premiums until I turn 70, and I am still receiving treatment to this day.

A Legacy of Care and Support

 

My story with this insurance agent began early in my career. At that time, I was still his boss, and he worked at my company while waiting for his SPM results. My children were still young, and he was tirelessly pursuing his studies. After completing his degree, he joined the insurance industry at the age of 25 and became my insurance agent.

​

I was his first major client, with an annual premium exceeding RM30,000 and a coverage amount of up to RM1 million. At that time, the medical card only provided a lifetime coverage of RM700,000. I remember that every time we met, we would talk late into the night before finally signing the policy. That was 20 years ago, and there weren't many opportunities to sell a million-ringgit policy, which made him very happy. However, a year later, I chose to reduce my coverage.

​

More than ten years later, my son called him to inform him that I needed surgery at a private hospital, with medical costs amounting to RM40,000. From that point on, I began taking medication for heart disease to maintain my health. As I aged, my knees also developed issues, and I consulted multiple doctors, filled with concerns. Later, the medical costs for both my legs in Singapore amounted to SGD 60,000, but thankfully, these expenses were covered by insurance.

Now that I am 66 years old, even though my medical card is an early version and I can no longer increase my coverage, I am still very grateful for the support and assistance of this insurance agent. He provided me with invaluable protection, allowing me to feel at ease in the face of health challenges.

Peace of Mind in Difficult Times

I got to know this insurance agent through my dad. I work in the cargo handling industry and had previously received compensation from a motorcycle accident, so I understood the importance of having a medical card. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I faced financial difficulties and had to pause my insurance policy. I did keep the medical card for my child and purchased a basic accident policy for myself.

Now, I have fully recovered, and I owe it all to my insurance and my agent’s unwavering support. I feel incredibly fortunate and deeply grateful to him.
